A few weekends ago I took part in the Arc`teryx Chamonix experience. I signed up for Introduction to Glacier safety and hiking on day one. I did not realize at the time that I was going to have to climb down a succession of rather long ladders (250m worth to be exact) that are bolted to a shear rock face.

You must also move from one ladder to the next on a rocky lip that is not as wide as a boot, or barely. There are rails to clip to as you move along to the next ladder. Going down I seemed quite fine, even though being a past sufferer of vertigo. I did belay the first two ladders but then felt fine and went the rest of way ropeless. On our return, after a day on the glacier and trying out various techniques for scaling ice walls above a glacial river, we had to ascend these ladders. This is when my mind went a little wobbly.

Last week we had world “Happiness” day, which coincided with the first day of Spring. Spring is a time of new beginnings and it would be a new beginning if the world was truly happy. In my Reiki training I have experienced Shamanism, as my Reiki teacher is also a Shaman. In Shamanism they believe that the energy from out thoughts impacts a web of energy that surrounds earth (I am really simplifying this). The belief is that we all impact the state of world happiness and peace.

So what makes people happy? There are several list floating around on what makes people happy. I think this is personal for most of us. Over the next few blogs I will touch on as many of these “happiness lists” that I can. I will start with my personal favorites. These are attitudes and actions that have helped me be able to keep a positive spin on most experiences that have come my way.

With fresh snow on the ground today I had to move my exerise indoors. I forgot how intense spinning is!

Ah, what a great day! Sunshine mixed with wind. Use the wind that nature has provided us today to help you clean out the stagnant energy that might be in your home. Open the windows and let the wind pass through the house. It will create a current and move the energy around, cleaning and refreshing your living space.

It is a good day to go outside and feel the wind. Take the opportunity to stand still, close your eyes, and experience wind as if it is the first time you have ever experienced the wind. Take a few abdominal breaths, let your thoughts go and notice how the wind pushes your body, moves your hair, makes you feel warm or cold. Spend time just noticing your body and the wind. Just take the time to notice.

Stay in the moment of the wind experience and when you are ready to, let go of anything cluttering your mind and open your eyes and smile.

Friday 5 th October 2012
It is a beautiful sunny day here in Nyon with a clear view to the Mont Blanc.

Days like this help me to express GRATITUDE even more easily.

If you have a moment, step outside, take a full breath of air through the nose, filling your abdomen with air. Release this breath slowly through your nostrils. Do this again with your eyes closed. Focus your mind on the sound of your breathing. Do this three times.

Open your eyes and take in the magnificant outdoors that is infront of you:
Give thanks for something that is in your line of sight.
Give thanks for someone in your life.
Give thanks for some aspect of yourself.

Notice how you feel. Are you lighter? Smiling?

A daily exercise to bring more gratitude and thus joy into your daily life.

Balance on my friends .......
